Stress-Less

I’m no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.

I’m no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.

I’m no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God.

These are the exact words I found myself singing, again and again, until the words sunk deep enough for me to comprehend what they mean to me.

I’m no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God. The next line says, I am surrounded by the arms of the Father.

I wanted us to be in knowledge of the idea and reality that we are surrounded by God’s embrace before we begin to think about our anxiety and the worries we carry around with us regarding our lives.

I currently find myself in a place of transition. There are some hard goodbyes that I will have to say. Actually, scratch that, very hard goodbyes that I am going to say in the coming months. But with those goodbyes, come questions that I do not have the answers to as of yet. You know, questions like “so what’s next for you Nikkita?”, “Have you figured out your next steps?” or “So what are you going on to do?” – I think you get my drift.

As much as people care for me and want to know what I’m doing next – these questions can be so difficult when I have no idea. I am prone to worrying. I’m an internal worrier and I worry on my own. And life can do that to us, can’t it? We can become caught up in the challenges of life with either not having a job, figuring out what job we should have next, career path, relationships, the way we look. You name it, we can stress about it!

Then God does this thing, where He leads me to the correct passage at the precise time in order for me to get the message. Do you know what I’m talking about? He hands a piece of your puzzle and helps you gain clarity over your situation.

God lead me to Luke, as I have been journeying through the new testament, I reached chapter 12. As I began to read, I eventually got to the passage which was titled “Do Not Be Anxious” and Jesus says to his disciples “I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing.”

Many of us, know this but the reality can become more overwhelming that we forget. But Jesus makes it clear… He says “your Father knows that you need them” to provide context, Jesus is letting us know that God knows – that we want that job, we want that relationship to succeed, we want to know our career path and He knows everything else that is upon our minds.

After reading that, I found the most amazing peace. You can call it the peace that passes all understanding – see what I did there? I have peace about not knowing my next steps, because God does. I have peace about this season of transition because God where he’s transitioning me too. And there no-one, nadie (Spanish for no-one!) that I trust more than the Lord. So friend, I want you to be encouraged by who holds you in an embrace and who surrounds you with perfect love. Let’s not be a slave to fear. Instead, like the songs says “let us sing our freedom.”

And if the day comes when we start to worry, I want you to hold onto this peace of scripture.

Fear not, little lock. Fear not.
