In life it can become so easy to compare ourselves to one another. Why don’t I have a car but they’re the same age as me? Why do they know how to style their hair better than I do? Why are they getting better grades than I am? It is easy to compare, when we live in a comparison culture.
They did it with Jesus. They compared him to Elijah, to Moses and John the Baptist. But it’s how he responds to all of that, which makes Him so awesome. He says:
I am the bread that gives life – John 6:48
I am the light of the world. – John 8:12
I am the good shepherd – John 10:11
I am the resurrection and the life – John 11:25
I am the way, the truth and the life – John 14:5
Jesus' response is only to remind others of who he is. He never said ''I guess I’m like Moses'' or ''I suppose I had the same mission as John.'' No! Jesus was bold. He made statements. He declared over himself exactly who He is.
And so that’s what we’re going to do. Now is a good time to grab your notebook, your favourite pen (or any pen – aha!) and silence the noise.
I want us to write 10 I am’s about ourselves. And just in case we’re finding it all a bit difficult – here’s one for free.
I am a royal daughter of a King!
Sister friend, you are so loved. You’re needed and I pray you reach out to us and let us know what you’re I am’s are!
I pray you’ll place them in locations where you will see them. Where you’ll re-read them, where you’ll allow the words to sink deeper into your heart and realise that you truly are all these things and so much more!
