Soul Ties: Breaking Ungodly Soul Ties
Over the last month on Chai Chats, we have been talking about Soul Ties. If you didn’t get a chance to read them, girlfriend, don’t delay, read today!
We spoke about what soul ties are and how easy it is to create them. We talked a little about how to discern a godly or ungodly soul tie. The idea of soul ties can be a little overwhelming but friend, we can confidently trust in the one who breaks our chains. So how do we do it?
Let me start off my telling you that there is no equation, formula, or specific prayer that can be an easy fix. An important place to start is to acknowledge the ungodly soul ties and turn away from it. Turning away from soul ties, repenting means to confess it.
1 John 1:9 - If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.
So friend, let me encourage you to confess to God, your accountability partner, your mentor that you might have an ungodly soul tie. Seek forgiveness my friend because God will forgive.
Micah 7:19 says: Once again you will have compassion on us. You will trample our sins under your feet and throw them into the depths of the ocean!
2 Chronicles 7:14 - If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.
You can be confident in the fact that when you repent and ask God for forgiveness, God WILL forgive you. But you also have to forgive yourself. When I was in the process of eliminating an ungodly soul tie, it had left me with a lot of guilt and I found it hard to forgive myself. It was in that season that God brought me to this quote by C. S Lewis – “I think that if God forgives us, we must forgive ourselves. Otherwise, it is almost like setting up ourselves as a higher tribunal than Him.”
I am amazed at C. S Lewis’ wisdom and it’s totally true. If God, the King heaven and earth forgave us, then how can we not forgive ourselves?
When we receive forgiveness, it breaks down the walls that we put up and we can run to God and ask Him to help us. Ask and it shall be received – ask God to help the ungodly soul ties. It sounds a bit too easy but Mark 11:24 says: "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."
My friend uses this phrase: ‘it takes two to clap’. I truly believe that what we ask for in prayer and believe that we have received it, it will be yours. But it takes two to clap. God will do His thing but if are to truly believe that we have received it, do we do life like we have received it?
Friend, let me encourage you to delete messages, pictures, throw away presents, throw away love letters, anything that reminds you of the ungodly soul tie. I am super sentimental so I keep every little thing. Putting them in a bin bag and throwing it away was hard but I was doing my part. It takes two to clap. Eliminating physical reminders of our ungodly soul tie helps is also symbolic of being intentional in throwing away our ungodly soul tie.
One thing I learnt with breaking soul ties that is that it’s not an overnight thing. It happens over a period of time, while living in faith that we have received what we have asked for, while we trusting in God who breaks every chain and restores us.
For it is written in Deuteronomy 30 - ‘God, your God, will restore everything you lost; he'll have compassion on you; he'll come back and pick up the pieces from all the places where you were scattered. No matter how far away you end up, God, your God, will get you out of there and bring you back to the land your ancestors once possessed. It will be yours again. He will give you a good life and make you more numerous than your ancestors.’ - Deuteronomy 30: 3-5
