Scriptures to Slay Anxiety

A few weeks ago, I had a really scary dream. It was so scary that I woke up from my sleep feeling a bit numb and then anxiety to go back to sleep just in case that I got pulled into my scary dream again.

The next night, as I was getting ready for bed, my mind flashed back to my scary dream and I was too nervous to go to sleep. So I messaged my mentor asking for prayers and being an amazing mentor that she is, sent me some bible verses to meditate on to help me sleep.

Friend, I know that anxiety can sometimes be crippling but we got the sword of the Word to slay anxiety and kick it’s butt. Paraphrasing my mentor, take some time to meditate on these scriptures, repeat it so that the words seep into your heart and comfort you.

Psalm 23:4

The Lord is my light and my salvation – whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life – of whom shall I be afraid?

Psalm 27:1

Psalm 118:6-7

Psalm 34:4

Mark 5:36

Friend, don’t be afraid; just believe. You might be thinking that it is easier said than done and believe me, I have not only thought it but said it to my mentor, to my friends who tried to help during an anxiety attack. But friend, tell God exactly what you are feeling, yell and shout if needed and then meditate on at least one of these verses. Put God in His rightful place and kick anxiety out – it has no place in your mind.

Let’s pray:

Father, I pray for everyone who is reading this post who struggles with anxiety. I pray that you reign in their minds and hearts as they mediate on Your Word and slay anxiety in Your name Jesus. Thanks to You, we have the victory. We claim it in Your name, amen.
